I planned my outfit days in advance. My mom took pictures of me. My stomach was a knot of nervous and excited anticipation. My date and I had been friends for a while and we both liked each other, so it was a natural step. But no one knows how a first date will go. Will there be awkward silence?

As youth ministers, we want our students to make great choices for their lives. We see countless students get into spiritually harmful dating relationships. We sit across the table from the young man that sees the sin he and his girlfriend are in and wants out. It breaks our hearts every time. We sometimes feel that if we delivered the right sermon at the right time, maybe it would solve a problem for one of our students.
Because of this we may teach things to students that are often shortsighted. They may help them here and now but may not be what they need to hear in the long run. We all understand that sex is a gift from God and should be enjoyed inside the covenant of marriage. We may even try to teach this. We hear the stories of Christian couples that experience guilt and shame during their marriages, because this has become so ingrained in their thinking.

Okay, maybe not. Last February I decided to try a series or book. So I downloaded the Kindle version and quickly read it. After seeing how incredibly practical the book is, I wanted to get it into the hands of every teenager in our ministry. I appreciate the solid content, and so did our small groups as they watched intently and leaned in to listen.
We purchased the four-week small-group DVD set and gave each leader a copy of the book a month in advance. In the back of the book is a small-group video discussion guide. We asked leaders to read the book, especially focusing on chapters 1, 6, 9, and 10 the chapters the videos address. Our leaders and students loved the reading, teaching, and conversation.
